Rugby Returns to Cobden Hill

With the move to Phase D on the Rugby Football Union’s Return to Rugby Roadmap Tabard RFC celebrated this milestone by hosting an RFU Pitch Up for Rugby day on Saturday 12th September at Cobden Hill.

The format adopted for the day was Ready4Rugby, the all new non-contact game (non-contact due to COVD-19) which enables two opposing teams of up to 10 players to engage in match activity.

The event was very much an intra-club affair with two round robin tournaments ably refereed by Herts RFU Society officials. The U13 & U14 boys fielded two teams of 10 players and the senior men & women plus U16 boys organised four mixed teams of 8 to 10 players. Some fine rugby was played in this fast paced game. Good handling skills and sharp lines of running were amply on display and all participants thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

The RFU was represented by their President, Jeff Blackett and he was given the warmest of welcomes by Tabard RFC club officials, supporters and members of the local community who came along to join in the fun. It was a pleasure to have Councillor Caroline Clapper with us on the day

and we were delighted that she found time in her busy diary to support this community event.

The RFU President took time out not only to commend Tabard RFC for hosting such a successful Pitch Up for Rugby event but he was somewhat inspired by the charity work that the club does with School of Hard Knocks (SOHK) and Plate for London. Having the founder and CEO of SOHK, Ken Cowen, and the Managing Director of A Plate for London, Laura-Jo Pearce in attendance added to all round success of the day.

The attached LINK provides an excellent short video of the event, encapsulates the day brilliantly and well worth a viewing.
