King George V Playing Fields

Aldenham Parish Council (APC) own a piece of land on the edge of Radlett along Cobden Hill. It is held under trust, called the King Georges Fields Radlett Trust, and was part of a number of playing fields that were held nationally as King George V Playing Fields. This was a way of protecting these playing fields from encroachment and possible development. The overall body is now called ‘Fields in Trust’.

The King George V Playing Fields in Radlett (KGV) consists of some 50 acres over five fields coloured pink below, and two dells coloured blue on the map below.

These lie between the back of the houses in Watling Street and the railway line, south of the Tennis Club. Going south from the Tennis Club there is The Piggeries (an island of land between Tykes Water and the railway line), the Rose Field, the rugby club pitches that are rented to TabardRFC at a nominal rent, the car park, Wellhouse Dell, the Second XI cricket club pitch rented to RadlettCC at a nominal rent, the Picnic Field and Salters Field (the largest of all the fields). Over the road from Salters Field is Cobden Hill Dell.
