Detailed Information

u3a stands for the University of the Third Age. It began in France in 1972, with the core of u3a starting in Britain in 1982. The vision of u3a is that older people have access to education by providing it for themselves. Membership of the u3a is open to retired and semi-retired men and women irrespective of race, religion or politics. Everything in u3a is done by its members. While there is a national organisation, the Third Age Trust, its main role is to support the development of new u3as. All the activities of Radlett & District u3a are provided by its members for its members. It is financially self-supporting.
Radlett & District u3a holds a regular monthly meeting on the morning of the second Tuesday of the month. Most of the activities are organised through Study Groups which cover a range of topics and meet on a regular basis, often in members’ homes. Each group is financially self-supporting. There are also activities open to all members such as outings to the theatre and places of interest. See our monthly update (links on the news page) or the Events and Group pages from the buttons above.
As well as our local newsletter, members receive the national Third Age Matters magazine.

If you wish to apply for membership, please contact the Membership Secretary via the Contact page. New members will be restricted to residents of the parishes of Aldenham, Shenley and Ridge. This covers Aldenham, Patchetts Green, Letchmore Heath, Radlett, Ridge, and Shenley. In addition, the spouses of existing members may apply to join. The Executive Committee regrets having to make this decision which is due to the limitations of the capacity of the Hall and Car Park used for our monthly meetings.

Radlett u3a is part of the Herts Network of u3as which holds network meetings, arranges study days, social events and training days. On a larger scale Radlett is in the East of England Region which helps with growth, development and educational support of u3as within the region.

Radlett and District u3a is a registered charity No 1156262
