|Help bring seasonal cheer to Hertsmere|
|Children are being asked to help spread some seasonal cheer by entering Hertsmere Borough Council’s annual seasonal card competition.
The council is looking for a cheerful festive design to be used on its electronic greeting card. Designs can represent religious festivals or aspects of the season. Entries from youngsters aged 11 or below who live or go to school in the borough are invited and must be submitted before Friday 24 October. Winners will receive a certificate and a £50 gift voucher. Second and third place winners will receive a certificate and a £30 and £20 gift voucher respectively.
Unlike previous years, due to the sad death of the Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor Cynthia Barker, earlier this month and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, a presentation ceremony for the winners will not be held in the Civic Offices. However, alternative arrangements will be announced shortly.
Deputy Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor Anne Swerling said: “This year, with all the uncertainty and challenges facing Hertsmere and the country as whole, it’s more important than ever that we come together in whatever way we can.
“We’ve been running the seasonal card competition for 14 years now, and this will be the first time, winners will not be able to receive their prizes from the Mayor of Hertsmere personally. I know it would have been an occasion Cllr Barker would have particularly enjoyed and I’m very sorry she isn’t here to take part.
“However, I know the Mayor would have wanted this year’s competition to go ahead and that’s why I’m urging as many youngsters as possible who live or go to school in the borough to take part.
“We really appreciate the support this competition receives from schools and the local community each year. It is a wonderful way to involve children in the borough in helping to spread a message of seasonal goodwill and cheer.”
Invitations have been sent to all the primary and junior schools in the borough to encourage participation in the competition.
The winning design will be reproduced by a designer and also replicated on our website and social media channels.
The rules for the competition are:
• Children must be aged 11 or under;
• The design should be no more than A4 in size (29.5 cm by 21 cm);
• It can be produced in pencil, pen and ink, paints or crayons;
• It should be one-dimensional.
Entries should be sent to Corporate Communications, Seasonal card competition, Hertsmere Borough Council, Civic Offices, Elstree Way, Borehamwood, WD1 6WA.
Please note each entry must include the full name and age of the participant, the school they attend and a contact number.
