As part of the Aldenham Parish Council commitment to the ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 children from Newberries School recently planted 35 small trees in the Picnic Field at KGV Playing Fields off Cobden Hill Radlett. In all 105 trees have now been planted by members of the Radlett Youth Council and both Newberries and Fair field Schools in Radlett.
RESERVOIR FOOTPATH SUCCESS!!
Borough Councillor Caroline Clapper is delighted to report some great news about Aldenham Country Park and Footpath Access. Following numerous discussions, we have (finally) reached formal agreement with the owners of the reservoir.
The footpath will now remain FULLY OPEN and the owners will not be allowed to erect any further fencing, and this is a binding agreement. This is one of the best solutions we could have reached, and stops the threat of closing the footpath again, or fencing off the reservoir altogether.
The gates will likely remain in situ for the next couple of months, but they now have to be permanently removed by the end of December 2022, and until then, they will be UNLOCKED at all times.
This is a fantastic win for the users of the Reservoir footpaths and I’d like to thank the County Council for all their hard work on this, as well as Cllr Jeremy Newmark who has supported this ‘All Party’ motion with me, that has lead to this positive outcome!

Autistic young people want to be more accepted by society, which is why this year we are focusing on autism acceptance.
One autistic young person said: “Autism isn’t a disease that people should be made aware about. It’s a difference that society should accommodate.”
Throughout this week we will be standing with autistic children and young people as they call for greater acceptance.
Young people will also be breaking down some common myths about autism and sharing some facts to increase an informed understanding.

In honour of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, and her 70-year reign as Monarch, we at the Radlett Youth Council, planted nearly thirty trees, to commemorate this great period in our country’s history. It was a wonderful experience for everyone who helped, and something that we believe marks a historical moment for now and future generations.
We have created what will grow into a small canopy of trees that will mark Her Majesty’s legacy, all that she has built and forms part of the Queen’s Green Canopy Initiative.
It will become an area for all in Radlett to enjoy and continue to feel a sense of togetherness and community.

For a number of years, Aldenham Parish Council (APC) has subsidised the cost of parking at Newberries Car Park. This is to enable residents to park free for the first hour. The cost is £2 for the second hour. The council hopes that people will be encouraged to use local shops, knowing that the first hour’s parking is free.
Some months ago, Hertsmere Borough Council (HBC), who owns Newberries Car Park, informed APC that as there had been no review of the subsidy for many years, an increase was required. HBC proposed that a subsidy of over £20,000 was required to reflect the loss of revenue by having free parking for the first hour. Such an increase would have had a significant affect on the budget for 2022/23.
After negotiation, the increase has been agreed from £8,511to £10,000.
APC councillors hope that residents agree that this is a good use of their council tax. In 2022/23, the precept for a Band D property will be £124.29 per year, an increase of 2.17%.
Aldenham Parish Council are pleased to be taking part in the Queens Green Canopy project. The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
APC have already, with the Association of Jewish Refugees planted an Oak tree in Salters Field (part of the King George V Playing Fields off Cobden Hill. Now they have planted two lime trees on the edge of Salters Field where it borders Watling Street.
Over the next few weeks 105 native trees will be planted in the Picnic Field by local youth groups, and we have also had enquirers from local charities who wish to add to our collection.
The Council Office is now back open from today, Monday 31st January 2022.
Our opening hours are Monday – Thursday 10am – 1pm.
