John Apthorp CBE

Aldenham Parish Council (APC) were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of John Apthorp this week and would like to send heartfelt condolences to his family at this sad time.

Over very many years John Apthorp has supported the local community in a very generous way, both in his personal capacity and through his family charities. In particular, John has been a great supporter of the Radlett Centre and, through his generosity, the centre was able to install new seating, updated lighting and technical equipment.

John also steadfastly supported APC through the years, giving generous donations to help us provide free public celebrations, such as for the late Queen’s Jubilee and the King’s Coronation. He asked for no acknowledgement, simply wanting to help make his community happy.

In recognition of this support, APC awarded John Apthorp the Freedom of the Parish Award in 2017, the first person to receive the highest honour that can be bestowed on a local citizen.

The loss of such a man is immense but he will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, and tireless efforts to make a difference.
