The Councillors and Officers of Aldenham Parish Council are deeply saddened at the news of Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts are with all members of the Royal Family at this time.

Meetings of the Council – The Full Council and Planning meetings due to take place on 12 & 19 September have been cancelled during the period of mourning.

State Funeral – The National Moment of Reflection will take place at 8pm on Sunday 18 September, the night before the State Funeral, and will be marked by a one-minute silence. The silence can be marked privately at home but if you would like to gather at the War Memorial, to pay your respects, you are more than welcome but no official service will be given by Aldenham Parish Council.

On the day of the funeral our offices will be closed, on Monday 19 September, to observe the national bank holiday in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral.

September – World Alzheimer’s Month

World Alzheimer’s Month is a global opportunity to raise awareness around, educate, encourage support of and demystify dementia. World Alzheimer’s Day takes place on 21 September as part of World Alzheimer’s Month.

The theme for World Alzheimer’s Month in September 2022 is ‘Know dementia, know Alzheimer’s’. This year it has a special focus on post-diagnosis support.

There’s a lot to think about after receiving a diagnosis of dementia. But you are not alone. The Alzheimer’s Society, among the charities, can help people adjust to a diagnosis and access support.

Your GP can also provide support by offering treatments, referrals, advice and information to manage the condition and live well with dementia.

The APC Access for All Working Party want to support everyone in the community to the best of its ability, whether that be through sign posting, sharing information or just hear what we can do to make our community a better, more accepting and accessible place to live.

05 September 2022 Views on the future of South West Hertfordshire are being invited, as a draft vision for the area which aspires to accelerate ‘positive change’ is now open for public consultation.

The South West Hertfordshire 2050 – Realising Our Potential document, includes a draft vision and objectives for the area until 2050 and marks the first formal plan-making stage for the South West Herts Joint Strategic Plan (JSP), which is being drawn up by Hertsmere Borough Council, St Albans City and District Council, Dacorum Borough Council, Three Rivers District Council and Watford Borough Council, supported by Hertfordshire County Council.

Aldenham Parish Council’s tree contractors, Turneys, are scheduled to carry out works to some of the trees in Scrubbitts Wood week commencing 5th September 2022.

This is a result of the arboricultural surveys carried out by the Council as part of the maintenance and sustainability programme for the woods.

There will be barriers in place, but please keep any dogs on leads and supervise any children.

Hertsmere residents have the chance to register to be part of a tried and tested renewable energy scheme and help save the planet and cut their energy bills. Residents are being encouraged to come together to invest in solar panels and battery storage through a group-buying scheme, Solar Together, being brought forward by Hertsmere Borough Council in partnership with other Hertfordshire local authorities and independent experts iChoosr.
Householders can register online to become part of the group for free and without obligation. The scheme offers solar panels with optional battery storage and EV charge points, as well as retrofitting of battery storage for residents who have already invested in solar panels and are looking to get more from the renewable energy they generate as well as increase their independence from the grid. Registration closes on Tuesday 27 September, when an auction of pre-approved UK solar PV suppliers participate will take place.

Aldenham Parish Council (APC) is continuing to fight the Solar Plant application on 320 acres of Green Belt land surrounding Hilfield Farm and land north of Butterfly Lane.

The Planning Inspector held a Case Management Conference on 11 August which detailed the information she requires and how the Inquiry will proceed in October. The inquiry will be held at Hertsmere  Borough Council offices on 19 & 20 October, 25-27 October and 1-3 November 2022 commencing at 10:00am and finishing at 5:00pm approximately each day. It should be possible to view this remotely and details will follow.

The next crucial date is that all evidence should be submitted to the inspector by 21 September. APC will continue to keep the community updated as and when there are any further developments to report.  

Aldenham Parish Council are aware that there is mains water leak with water seeping through the retaining wall to the car park at The Radlett Centre. This was reported on 1 August 2022 to Affinity Water. Their engineer has found that the leak is from a pipe below the exit to the car park in the footway. They have marked this with blue paint.

Since then the council have been told several reasons why it has not been repaired, but with no definite date for repair being given. We apologise that there has been such a loss of water, but we are contacting Affinity Water constantly for an update.

Phillimore Recreation Ground awarded the coveted Green Flag Award as it is officially recognised as one of the country’s best parks

In a record-breaking year Phillimore Recreation Ground is raising its prestigious Green Flag Award

Today, Aldenham Parish Council is celebrating after receiving a Green Flag Award for Phillimore Recreation Ground one of 2208 UK winners.

The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

After two years that have seen our parks and green spaces play a vital role for people through lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely, the news that Phillimore Recreation Ground has achieved the Green Flag Award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that make the green space a great space that everyone can enjoy.

“We are really pleased to have been awarded this for the 2nd year running. It has been a great team effort which has been supported by the Council.”

Commenting on the news that Phillimore Recreation Ground has met the Green Flag Award standard, Keep Britain Tidy’s Accreditation Manager Paul Todd said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making Phillimore Recreation Ground worthy of a Green Flag Award.

Phillimore Recreation Ground is a vital green space for the community in Hertfordshire. This award is testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
